Island Heritage
Blue-badge Guide & historian Chris Callow has been offering tours to both visitors and locals since 2017. A native Manxman, Chris took a career shift in 2015 embarking on a degree course in history and heritage, widening his already extensive knowledge of the Isle of Man.

Chris has just completed the final seventh leg of the stunning Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath, and would be happy to guide on any sections of this walk during your summer staycation.

In June Chris resumed his ‘3TholtansTours’, taking small groups to iconic abandoned homesteads high above the Sulby Valley. Chris has detailed specialist knowledge of this period of Manx history and brings these atmospheric ruins to life.

On Saturday 4 July Chris is leading a Maughold Coastal Walk, looking at mining remains, Celtic & Viking Crosses, a healing well and a Victorian seaside enclave, as well as enjoying stunning scenery and wildlife.

Where: Island Heritage Tours arrange walks and site visits all over the Island. Like and follow their Facebook page to be kept informed of forthcoming events – or contact Chris who will be happy to put together a bespoke itinerary for your family or group.

When: Regular walks and site visits take place evenings and weekends, but Chris will be happy to schedule an event to fit your staycation itinerary.

Over the course of the summer we'll be continuing to list some of the great experiences and activities you can take part in right on your doorstep here on the Isle of Man.

5 of the best Isle of Man short walks

“Wow! It’s a walker’s paradise” or “I never knew that the Isle of Man has so many beautiful and varied landscapes to offer walkers”. These are phrases our visitors often tell us when we are out guiding and showing off our island on foot. But it’s not a surprise to us with a near unlimited choice of routes and landscape to choose from and stunning views around every corner.

Learn to eat again on a Foraging Tour of Port Erin

Due to its biodiverse landscape the Isle of Man has been given UNESCO biosphere status. This, therefore, is “foraging heaven” according to chefs that visit the Isle.

Enjoy a paddleboarding adventure on the Isle of Man

The dramatic coastline of the Isle of Man lends itself well for watersports, and Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) as it gets called is growing in popularity on the island as more and more people discover the sport. Michelle from Saltworks SUP tells us some more about this new paddlesport.
