Island Escapes launches The Big Blue Bag project!

We are proud to announce that Island Escapes has partnered with The Big Blue Bag project!

The first holiday letting business in the British Isles to do so, we have introduced 10 Big Blue Bags into a selection of our holiday cottages across the Isle of Man.

As part of a pioneering initiative, this brand-new project was created by British broadcaster and naturalist, Monty Halls, and is designed to encourage a hands-on approach to marine conservation.

Supported by Visit Isle of Man, we couldn’t be more delighted to take part and provide our guests with the opportunity to connect even more closely with the amazing coastalscapes and oceans that surround our beautiful island.

As part of the project, the aim is to encourage everyone to get outside and actively collect as much data on key protocols outlined by The Big Blue Bag project. These include vital information on microplastics, sea temperature, coastal debris, and biodiversity.

Promoting collective participation and immersive engagement, each bag contains all the tools needed to sample key environment markers around the coastline and record findings, with easy-to-use equipment and a dedicated app.

A fantastic, family-friendly activity, it’s an activity that doesn’t need any qualifications and each protocol only takes around 20 minutes – although it’s highly absorbing and you can take much longer! What’s more, changemakers of all ages can get involved and it can be carried out on almost any stretch of coast around the UK.

On the Isle of Man we are particularly connected to the sea and are especially keen to record critical data that will help to protect our beloved seas and coastal habitats.

Big blue bag use

From observing different species of sea birds to filtering microplastics, each protocol plays a really important role in protecting our wild spaces and we couldn’t be prouder to champion this cause.

Find out more about The Big Blue Bag project and what each bag includes.

Guests can find this bag at a selection of our coastal properties around the island, we'll also have one in the Island Escapes office to borrow should your property not have one.
