We visited as a family of 5. The Swallows was the perfect location and very spacious. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We would definitely visit again.

Guest, Crumlin - July 11 "Wonderful place in a tranquil location - loved it"

Loved staying at Ballacallin Court in the west of the Isle of Man in a beautiful peaceful rural valley which feels like a haven of rest. The properties are quite new and well maintained. We stayed in the Swallows and it was great self-catering accommodation at the end of a converted barn. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs - two double bedrooms; one with an en-suite bathroom (bath and shower above) and one bedroom with two single beds. We were really pleased with the beds which were comfortable and we slept well. There is also a family bathroom downstairs with a shower. Upstairs (stairs are on the steeper side, with a short angled stair at the bottom - be aware if someone has walking issues), there is a good sized kitchen with a generous dining table. The kitchen is well resourced and has a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room is large with a number of sofas and chairs, a wood-burning stove (not used), and a TV, DVD player, and a good selection of DVDs to watch - including one on the Isle of Man! There were also a number of board games and a set of leaflets on tourist attractions including a Peel chip shop menu (they deliver!). The living room has beautiful views over the surrounding hills with views of sheep and rabbits, and gorgeous sunrises. Also upstairs is a small bathroom with a single toilet and basin. The property takes 6 people but my understanding is you can book the next door Fushias if you have a larger group and the properties are connected via the door (locked) within the kitchen of the Swallows which allows the full party to come together and share time in the living room etc. Lovely touches on arrival were the good quality bread, cheese, butter, coffee, tea and milk, salt, plus some local chocolates - enough provisions to get you started. There were also a few dishwasher tablets, some washing up liquid and a cloth provided to help at the outset. The kitchen has a range of good quality crockery, glasses and there are saucepans and a frying pan plus strainer, serving dishes etc. Another big bonus is the access to an excellent gym and hot tub/sauna/steam room. There is a small table and chairs to be able to sit outside the rear of the property and good parking at the front of the accommodation, with a small set of steps down to the front door entry. The owner/caretaker is extremely helpful and guided us around the fitness facilities. You can take a walk along the pathway adjacent to the road outside the property. It is probably important to have a car otherwise to allow for easy access and transport to and from the area. I had very few suggestions about this property as I loved:1. There is no complete shower enclosure in the family bathroom so water goes over the full floor - we had to use towels to mop the water up. Could this be remedied?2. A small bedside table would be welcome in the twin bedroom to move into position at night - we used the small stool as a substitute but a table would have been better. 3. The washing machine is extremely noisy - while we didnt mind, the noise was so extreme, we were worried it woke our neighbours as we unwittingly put it on towards bedtime. Suggestion to place a note on the washing machine to advise to use it during the day as it is very noisy!4. The extra key to the property didnt work - we advised Island Escapes so hopefully this will be corrected for others. 5. More teaspoons would be great as I suspect they have become depleted in number; also storage of some extra towels at the property especially given current need to dry the bathroom. 6. Island Escapes information on the property is quite general - there was no information in the file on the kitchen table about property specifics such as where emergency torch and battery were situated, how to use the heating system/controls in the property, how to use the wood-burning stove etc - I would have been reluctant to use the latter as no details on how to do so were supplied. As the owner/caretaker doesnt manage the property, more information within the accommodation and its specific features is necessary and would be very helpful. In summary, Ballacullin Court is brilliant self-catering accommodation that I loved and would come back to. Western Isle of Man is a beautiful place with many scenic locations and Peel itself is my favourite town on the island. I also really liked the experience of booking with Island Escapes and speaking to their helpful team based in Castletown.

Sean, Cadishead - August 8, 2023 "Spacious and Clean"

The accommodation met all our expectations - it was spacious and clean and came with everything we required for our holiday. The only disadvantage is the location which is quite remote, so required use of a car most of the time to access other places, but we were aware of this when we booked.

Peter, Goring - May 23, 2023 "A perfect location for a short break "

We had a wonderful time staying at The Swallows. It was such a good location to explore and is in such a lovely setting. The house was super clean, very comfortable beds and the welcome pack was really appreciated (milk, margarine, bread, cheese, tea, coffee bags and biscuits). David, the owner, kindly took the time to show us the way to a couple of lovely coastal walks nearby. I enjoyed using the hot tub each evening. I highly recommend the Boatyard innPeel for a delicious meal- you will need to book ahead. The walk to/through Glen Maye is lovely, and a highlight was driving to the Sound for a beautiful walk (spotting seals in the sea) and a coffee in the cafe there.

Collin, Crail - April 30, 2023 "Lovely property, but a bit bare."

The wooden floors look lovely, but would be improved, in our opinion, with the addition of several rugs. Also the bare wooden stairs are very noisy for anyone going to bed before the others. There is an underfloor heating system which either doesn't work, or take far too long to heat up. We were told how to set the heating, but it appeared to make no difference to the room temperature.

Guest, Laxey - March 28, 2023 "Perfect staycation venue"

We rented the Swallows and the Hawthorns for a family staycation. We found both properties to be spotlessly clean and are well designed for large family get togethers. The gym and spa add an extra dimension for those who want it although the weather was so good we hardly used it. There are so many good walks around that you would never be at a loose end in this location. We thoroughly recommend the properties.

Louise, Bradford - October 1, 2022 "Lovely stay"

We stayed here as a family group. This property was in an amazing quiet location with lots beautiful views. The children loved the hot tub and table tennis table. The on site gym and sauna were also great.Good parking and ideal for loading unloading etc. The welcome pack was great and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook. The location is ideal for getting around the island. We all really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

Alison, Durham - September 16, 2022 "Short Break with Friends"

We rented two adjoining properties - The Swallows and The Fuschias - to accommodate our party of 5 (one couple 3 single people) in four bedrooms, each having a bathroom for sole use. This worked extremely well as the properties interconnect and we were able to come together in one of the kitchens and one of the lounges. There was a generous Welcome Pack of milk, butter, bread, cheese, tea/coffee.The properties are spacious, very well equipped, extremely clean and comfortable. The grounds are lovely, with outdoor seating areas, and in an attached building, a gym, a steam, sauna and hot tub room. A table tennis set up is available outside. The host is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The cottages are situated in a quiet area but with good access to all parts of the Island.

Guest, Durham - September 16, 2022 "A lovely relaxing stay"

We stayed at the swallows as part of a larger group booking covering all three accommodation options at this site. The accommodation itself was well thought out with plenty of outside areas to utilise as well as comfortable communal areas inside and lovely comfortable beds. The additional facilities of a gym, sauna, and steam room added a little extra luxury and were amazing to use after a day exploring. The kitchen was relatively well stocked with plenty of crockery, cutlery, and dishes although if you are planning be there as a larger group I would suggest bringing with you a couple of large saucepans and there is no single dining space large enough to cover all guests at the same table). The owners were friendly and helpful. We cannot fault our stay here. It was quite simply a great holiday, in lovely accommodation, on a beautiful island.

Colin, Rugby - September 7, 2022 "Excellent stay at The Swallows"

We were a party of 6 staying at The Swallows for Manx GP week. The Swallows was excellent. Lovely big comfortable lounge and big fully equipped kitchen, and good bedrooms with comfy beds. Added bonus of use of the fully equipped gym and hot tub which was fantastic. Great parking and a good location too - around 2 miles outside Peel - very peaceful and quiet. The owners were on site but did not intrude and were very helpful if we needed anything. Overall an excellent place to stay and highly recommended.

We stayed at The Swallows cottage which was lovely and had everything we needed. The spa facilities and gym were an added bonus for us.It had beautiful views and ideal for us as a base to see most of the Isle of Man and the Southern 100 Road racing. Helen, Greeba - July 8, 2022 "beautiful location, great facilities"

We loved the light airy feeling of this cottage, it really is special. We booked all 3 cottages which was terrific for the purposes of our booking, on and off island guests remarked on the beautiful location and facilities. Our retreat guests commented on the lounge and stairway needing a bit of a spruce up, we also noted that there were significant stains on the seats of the sofa ( they looked like water stains, perhaps from previous guests sitting on them with wet costumes from the spa?) We also found snacks( cheddars) under the cushions.Unfortuntley there was also a problem with the jacuzzi only working at half capacity which did effect some of the guests wanting to socialise together as we had a booking for all three cottages. However we would most defiantly book again.

We booked all 3 accommodations as we were staying with relatives. It was great to be able to open up the interconnecting doors so that we could use it as one house when needed and close them off when we didnt. The accommodation was spotless and well equipped. The added bonus of the gym was also great. Would definitely stay again!

Jean, Stockport - April 4, 2022 "Great family gathering "

We booked Fuchsia and Swallow together, two great interlinked properties for this big family gathering. The properties are in a lovely peaceful location and are very spacious and comfortable. There is a great gym with sauna and hot tub which we used a lot. We also really enjoyed playing table tennis outside. If you're intending to cook for large groups though take your own pans and large bowls etc. as although the kitchens are lovely and spacious they have a real shortage of decent sized cooking utensils.Overall a great trip and we were blessed with beautiful weather.

Michelle, Santon - December 29, 2021 "Perfect staycation"

We stayed at Ballacallin Court over the Christmas break for 5 days and occupied all 3 cottages which was perfect for our family break. As the cottages all have interleading doors, the set-up was absolutely perfect. The cottages are very well equipped, modern and comfortable, the gym & spa facility is an added bonus. The view from the cottages is beautiful and instantly relaxing. The service we receive from Island Escapes as well as the on-site owners was amazing. The little touches such as bread, milk, cheese and butter in the cottage kitchens was really lovely. We had a wonderful time at Ballacallin and I would highly recommend booking a stay there :)

Simon, Bolton - December 21, 2021 "A great Christmas stay."

The property is well appointed and beds are comfortable. The property has a shower room and toilet, ensure bath / shower toilet and toilet adjacent to the upstairs living room. It felt very spacious and the wood burner to the living room is a lovely extra. The under floor heating makes the property toasty even in December. The only negative we have was the speed of the internet provided. 1-2mb max isn't sufficient to stream much and with a family wanting to use Netflix / Disney etc you might struggle.

Our family of five stayed here for a week and really enjoyed this well located, quality accommodation in the heart of the countryside. Great beaches nearby which we enjoyed during the fabulous weather we had. The gym and spa proved popular with all the family. Would definitely recommend. Lewis, Douglas - June 14, 2021 "Brilliant Staycation Weekend"

We were a group of 12, split between The Swallows and The Fuchsias for a staycation long weekend. The properties have been finished to a high standard, very modern but the exposed beams and wood fire keep the cosy/rustic feel. The kitchens had everything you could possibly need, the fresh bread and Manx cheese selection was another nice touch. Jacuzzi and sauna were a welcome addition (unfortunately the steam room was out of action but not an issue). Overall very impressed and would highly recommend.

Rosamund, Glen Vine - August 2, 2020 "The perfect staycation "

Not being able to get away this summer we decided to have a holiday on island instead and chose the Swallows because it offered something extra with its spa and gym facilities. It has been the most relaxing week with incredible views and a beautifully kept property which is eqipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering break. As well as this, the owners of the property were very helpful and friendly and left us food essentials for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The location is near to Peel and therefore extremely convenient. A wonderful place to stay that we thoroughly recommend.
