The word ‘Thing’ comes from the old Norse for ‘assembly’ – þing – an early system of justice and administration, established by the Vikings and early Norse settlers in Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Shetland, Orkney, the Scottish Highlands, and the Isle of Man.
