Description

Ideal for a couple or a small family, The Corner House is a charming and comfortable town house in the heart of Peel, the "sunset city" of the west of the Isle of Man. Less than 5 minutes walk from the beach, the property is ideally located for easy access to all the amenities Peel has to offer.

The master bedroom in the property enjoys views out to sea and over the famous Viking castle that dominates the Peel skyline, whilst a smaller bedroom provides a bunk bed suitable for both children and adults. Downstairs a comfortable lounge/dining area is adjoined by a modern kitchen.

A working fishing port, in Peel you can still see Kippers, fish that has been split from tail to head and smoked being cured in the traditional manner at Moores Kipper Yard. In addition to Peel Castle, the House of Manannan provides a fascinating insight into the history of the Isle of Man, from the Viking past to exploring 19th century Peel with a walk around the sailmakers loft, chandlers shop, quayside, complete with sights and smells from the Manx kipper yard, and uncover the importance of the sea to the lives of the people on the Isle of Man.

Short Trip

Very clean and served the purpose of the visit. Out of hours service team was 5star. We also appreciated the little touches that were left at the property for our arrival. Main issue was Wi-Fi, which was not working due to only using a Mi-Fi device not great as was unable to connect or get a signal. We recommend staying at the corner house if you’re not interested in having internet for the duration of your stay.

Christmas in Peel

We’ve just returned from a lovely few days at the Corner House in Peel. We couldn’t have asked for a better base, especially as we were travelling with our three year old son. He absolutely loved the little child friendly touches from his own bunk beds and play room to the toilet seat in the bathroom. It was our first Christmas as a family on the island and we were greeted with a beautifully decorated tree and festive touches as well as a selection box and Christmas games. It made it really special. Location wise we were a stones throw to the beach and enjoyed many a beach walk despite the weather, adding a fair few shells to the collection. Overall it was a lovely house, the upstairs bedroom was beautifully done, with everything you need for a cosy comfortable stay.

Nice Property Overall - Would Benefit From Some Maintenance

Whilst a nice property overall it could do with some care and attention as well as a few updates: 1) There is a chair in the living room that is quite dirty 2) The boiler pressure drops frequently, I had to top it up 4/5 times during my stay to get hot water and heating 3) The bathroom is dated 4) There is no blind on the window going up the stairs from bathroom to the master bedroom 5) There are a lot of stairs some of which are very steep 6) The living room and master bedroom blinds are difficult to roll up and down However: 1) The master bedroom is exceptionally comfortable 2) There was a good stock of provisions on arrival 3) The shower is great with high pressure 4) The living room is cosy and homely 5) Good selection of DVDs, family games and FreeSat 6) The kitchen is well equipped with everything you'd need Overall it was a pleasant stay and good property just in need of a bit of care and maintenance

The Corner House, Peel

House conveniently situated for beach and basic shops. Others have commented on the stairs and they do need extra care. Parking often not possible by the house. Peel is a quaint town with plenty of opportunities to walk a dog. The Isle of Man is generally dog friendly.

Mixed review

Firstly, the location of this property is fantastic. If you like beaches, Peel has one of the best on the island in our opinion and this house is only 5 minutes walk from the beach/ shops etc. Parking is not as easy as their website states, unless you drive a small car. The roads are very tight here and some of the on street parking is terrible at best. We were barely able to get our car through some of the spaces at times and resorted to parking along the sea front. If you like the risk of scraping both sides of your car along parked cars for the small chance of a space, then go for it. The property is on three levels, first being the kitchen, living room and cupboard/utility room. The outdoor space is tiny, which didn’t bother us at all but if you’re expecting an area for your dog then best to rely on walking to the beach. The website states the property is newly renovated..I’m not sure when this was written but I wouldn’t say it’s 100% accurate in 2023. The furnishings downstairs are nice, including the kitchen but the property in general could really do with some attention. One of the arm chairs in the living room was so dirty, I described it to my partner that someone had worked on their bike then sat in the chair in their oily overalls. An upholstery cleaner would do the trick but this seems to have been overlooked even though it’s the first thing you see in the room when you come in. The property could do with new windows, they do the job but some refused to close on certain days. There are stairs leading up to a landing and then another couple to the bathroom. The bathroom has definitely not been ‘recently renovated’. Overall it’s clean but a few things made me shudder, the sealant round the shower screen NEEDS replaced. There is a cracked tile at the shower. The wash hand basin needs a new plug which is fitted to the sink. All very small things which have been overlooked. There are useful items of storage in the bathroom which is good but we found a razor and a feather on one of the shelves. Clearly not been cleaned before we arrived! We spent the majority of our trip with no hot water. We put it down to our own error/ boiler times at first but then reported it to the owners. I reported this late on Wednesday night (our second night) by email, the owners did not call me back until just before noon on Thursday, the plumber could come out after 5. The plumber attended and needed parts which were not available due to the plumbers merchant not being open. Expectation to ‘let the plumber in’ at 8am on Friday morning. I refused stating we were on holiday but would be happy to leave a key for him to attend once we were out and was met with a comment about needing to have it sorted for the next occupant. Seems a little rude considering we were still staying there! The owners text to say the issue was sorted, referring to me as MR and spelling my surname wrong despite having access to our booking. This is a small detail that was not welcome after the inconvenience we had just experienced. We returned to the property for one hot shower each in the holiday and a mess of chip board and whatever was on the plumbers shoes on the kitchen and bathroom floor. We understand issues arise but we were not amused at the way this was handled and why it was not spotted prior to our occupancy. There are further stairs to the second bedroom, study and then some very steep stairs to the master bedroom. The second bedroom is neutral but definitely aimed towards young children. It is cute though. The study is a mix of a child’s playroom and a study but would do fine for both purposes and would be a nice luxury to have. The master bedroom is lovely and genuinely did appear newly renovated, the bed is super comfortable and the bedding clean and fresh. There is plenty storage in this room, multiple sockets (ladies you understand!), and a full length mirror. Cannot fault this room. There is a sea and castle view from this room but only if you’re in the right place in bed/ at the window. Still nice to see though. Overall we did have a good trip and the property is nice but it could be so much better with some small improvements.

Amazing return visit

Beautiful house, perfectly clean and in the perfect location. Less than a minute walk to the beach (more importantly Davisons ice cream parlour!) and a few minutes walk to newsagents and shops. More than enough room for two adults, two children (aged 11 and 8) and our dog.

Excellent property.

We found the Corner House very clean, well equipped and comfortable. We had a very good stay and it was in an excellent location for both the sea front and walks for our dog. We received very good customer service from Island Escapes from the point of booking through to our holiday.

Nice destination. Poor area.

I found the I.o.m. a great place to visit and Peel is a very nice place to stay. It has a beach, a castle and good restaurants and pubs for excellent seafood etc. The area that the Corner House is in is however hard to find. (I had to rely on satnav every time). The house itself has everything you need but has seen better days and if you don't like stairs- forget it.

TT Week Stay

We enjoyed a lovely week at the Corner House. Very comfortable accommodation, everything that we needed. Easy stroll to the seafront but very quiet and peaceful even during TT week! Great for parking, either directly outside the accommodation or very close by. The welcome pack was much appreciated, especially the local rhubarb wine . We were lucky to have the perfect week weather wise so didn't make use of the DVD's etc. Only downside is the internet which we found to be very hit and miss. You could also do with a blind at the top of the stairs, not very private when going from the main bedroom to they bathroom. Other than that an excellent stay in beautiful Peel.

Lovely house and location, uncomfy bunks

Lovely house and located very close to the sea front so easy walk to and from the beach which was great. Very friendly local cats. The house was comfortable downstairs and is one of the better equipped kitchens we have stayed in. We were able to cook easily without trying to improvise for needed pots, pans and strainers - which is great. It was missing something to make coffee in but I can cope without. Living room had range of chairs to relax in but we couldn't get the dvd player to work. Freeview box was working fine though and the wheely table was good for cards and board games. Stairs are steep and the upper set is even trickier as its quite narrow on the turn up. Main upper bedroom was lovely, clean and bed was comfortable and warm. Children's bunk room was aimed at young children as is the play room / office space. Which is fine for young children but mine are more adults now so the baby themes and nightlights were not appreciated. The bunk beds had thin mattresses not suitable for older children - we ended up using cushions and pillows for some padding. Bathroom was clean and shower hot and powerful water pressure. Windows and main doors are quite old throughout, with seals blown and condensation in double glazed panels in places and some window catches did not open. Overall the house was clean, mostly comfortable, bright and well equipped and we enjoyed our stay there. The area is quiet and clean with two smaller food shops and a larger one in close walking distance. The beaches, castle and bay headlands on either side were great to explore and the buses ran three times an hour to Douglas or via Kirk Michael over to Ramsey - so its well connected. There are a few local shops but they do not seem to be open consistently. Chips on the front are pricey as is the ice cream place, but the ice cream was worth the price.

Ideal cottage for a stay in the heart of Peel. Very well appointed Steep stairs but manageable Warm and cosy house, extremely comfortable bed and water pressure in bathroom for shower and bath was very good. Kitchen flooring looking a little tired, otherwise faultless and I would happily stay again and recommend.

Absolutely beautiful holiday home

We would highly recommend this beautiful home for a holiday, we will definitely be returning. We are frequent visitors to the Isle of Man and I am so pleased we found this holiday let. The house is cozy, has everything you need for a comfortable stay and is ideal for a couple or a family of 4. The furnishings and finishing touches are of high quality. A short walk from the sea front and Peel centre it’s ideal if you don’t want to travel far, as there’s plenty to do in Peel. Thankyou for having us

8 Stanley Mount, Peel

A comfortable cottage very close to the promenade at Peel. Some minor maintenance required to blocked gutter, a very annoying smoke alarm which went off when the oven was opened or when toaster was in use, dripping hot water tap in the kitchen and a door knob that comes off in the upstairs bedroom. We also struggled with the television. Some clear instructions would have been nice (which controller to use and which hdmi source). The bins were emptied on Thursday not Monday as in the property guide. More detail on places to get rid of recycling would also be useful ( what material should be taken to which site, we found one on the end of the promenade which took cans or bottles, while one in the at centre of Peel car park took glass or paper) Also instructions for switching the heating on and off would have been good. We switched it on but failed to switch it off. I hope this detail helps.

Fabulous stay in Peel. Gorgeous fisherman's cottage. Great location.

Had a wonderful stay. Cottage spotless and very well maintained. Really good shower, crisp clean bed linen and fluffy white towels. Downside: parking could be an issue, kitchen not great, the hob not good and there needs to be more/better cooking utensils particularly nonstick pans and oven dishes.

Beautiful and well equipped

This is a lovely cottage with lots of character. Very clean and beautifully furnished. It is a couple of minutes walk from Peel seafront and a very short walk from a Co-op and Shoprite. There is no denying the stairs are steep as mentioned. I have arthritis in my knees and coped OK. You just need to take your time. This is a property on 3 levels. Lounge/diner and kitchen on ground floor. Bathroom and bedroom with bunks on 1st floor and another box room type room. The Master bedroom is on the top floor. If you're not too spry and need to get up in the night to go to the loo it's a bit of a performance down a curving steep staircase with a small landing where the bedrooms are and then down another 3 steps and up a step to the bathroom. If this doesn't bother you it's a great place. We found we usually couldn't park outside the cottage if we came back late. We stayed in July though, during the Southern 100, so it may not be the case at other times. However, there is plenty of free parking and we found the best place was on the seafront. Just a couple of minutes walk and no hair-raisingly tight spaces to try to manoeuvre into!

A nice relaxing stayb

The corner house is a few minutes walk from the beach, shops , restaurants , nice clean place with a powerful shower , not great for parking & even less so with a motorcycle, I dropped mine due to the camber in the road ( I put my foot down to fresh air) causing extensive damage but still rideable, could do with a tv in the main bedroom, other than that a very quiet place , would stay again.

Comfortable and clean, but beware steep stairs

Pros: - Cleanliness was excellent - Some starter provisions were provided and much appreciated: milk, tea, coffee, loaf, butter and cheese - Beds are comfortable and rooms spacious - Well equipped kitchen - Wifi issue was quickly rectified - Peel is lovely location and property short walk from the beachfront Cons: - Steep stairs between bathroom and bedroom - No window covering on stair window to protect your modesty between bathroom and bedroom. - No working extractor fan in bathroom - Instructions for Wifi were incorrect in the in-property information book - No instructions provided for coffee machine which we concluded must be broken

Cottage by the sea

The cottage is in an excellent location. The upper rooms are nicely furnished and the bed very comfortable. Excellent shower and bathroom. The ground floor needs a little TLC, especially the kitchen. The dishwasher needs replacing as the door is difficult to shut. The smoke alarm is a nightmare, as it goes off even when cooking toast with the door open. The kitchen was adequately equipped. Good central heating and cosy atmosphere.

Corner House Peel

We had a lovely week staying at the Corner House. We had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The lounge area was comfortable and the kitchen had all the utensils needed for cooking a meal although we ate out every night. The bathroom had a nice powerful shower (over bath) with plenty of hot water. The master bedroom had a large comfortable bed with nice white bed linen. A flat sheet under the duvet would have been nice as we stayed during the hottest week of the year and the duvet was a bit warm. No outside space to speak of but we were only five minutes from the beach so used to go there. Very well placed for the ameneties of Peel.
